10 or 12mm Socket head M5 screws

Postby wmgeorge » Sun Mar 09, 2014 4:48 pm

Placed my order to Misumi and are getting ready to order the M5 socket head screws. Finding them referenced in a couple places as 10 mm and other lists show 12 mm, which length is it? I ordered 200 - M5 T nuts but only find 90 or so screws at least the 10 or 12 mm long ones being used. Is this a misprint?

I found the 12mm screws bottom out on the extrusion when you are fastening thin materials, i.e. the corner brackets, etc. I want to say I ordered both 12 and 10 but wound up ordering more 10's later. You will use more T nuts than the 90 you counted, there are several places where you will mount 1/2" plastic parts and need longer screws.

Since I am ordering the plated ones, (and they come in bags of 50) I will order 150 of the 10mm and 50 of the 12mm long. I can get them locally but McMaster Carr is much cheaper. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

Yes the 12mm are to long for the angle brackets, got my order(s) yesterday, but assuming the 12mm can be used to attach over the skins or other parts.
