RAMPS Running On BeagleBone and LinuxCNC

We had a little fun last week at PS1 hacking a RAMPS 3D printer controller into a BeagleBone running LinuxCNC. In this demo we also had a remote computer controlling the motion via a web page interface. Stay tuned on this, I have some cool stuff in the pipeline.

I don't understand?
A RAMPS (arduino shield) on BeagleBone?

BeagleBone is like a RaspberryPi much more than arduino

So was Beaglebone replacing arduino board or acting as PC runing linux
and software to control printer

Looks like BeagleBone connects up to Standard Arduino with RAMPS via usb
running printer software and server to provide web interface to printer.

I did not do the video, but it was of my setup at PS1.

BeagleBone is like Raspberry PI in that it runs operating systems like Linux and Android. The BeagleBone has a ton more I/O including analog and is a lot faster, more memory on board flash, etc....

The big thing is the BeagleBone has a PRU (Programmable, Realtime Unit) which makes thing like CNC possible. Many people are using the Raspi to stream Ethernet etc, to their CNC, but the BeagleBone is actually running the controller.

I simply connected a RAMPS to the BeagleBone via jumpers and ran LinuxCNC. There is no Arduino involved.

We were talking about this at our hackerspace last week. There is some interest around to be sure. What sort of configuration of LinuxCNC was needed?
