Set Screw Flats?

Postby evokanivo » Sat Jul 28, 2012 7:04 pm

I am curious whether people added set screw flats to any of the X, Y, or Z components so that pulleys would hold tight. I am considering adding flats to the x and z motors and z-axis rods, but maybe it's overkill. I don't have great tools to do it either - just a dremel to grind it down a bit.

Yes, you should do that.. It's not overdone as screws like to loosen them selves after all the fibrating... You can also lock the screws with locktite (or even superglue)

I changed my setscrews out for M3 bolts on my ORDbot. The setscrews use a smaller allen key, so they can't take as much torque. Switching to the bolts, I haven't had any back out yet, while with set screws every one of them, even with locktite, backed out eventually.

I had a problem of one of my set screws always backing out on the gantry of my desktop cnc router. I replaced it with a nylon bolt of same size and problem solved.
