Best way to find spare (custom) parts?

Postby ag3c » Fri Nov 20, 2015 3:30 pm

My B17041 Gantry Idler Bracket broke recently. What's the best way to get a replacement?

Does anyone have any of these kicking around in a parts bin?

I have the DXF/PDF... are there cost-effective services that can mill simple pieces like this?

This part can be quite easily 3D printed. Mine are all made from PLA (I initially made then out of nylon but switched). You could have someone on MakeXYZ make one for you. I'l check if I have a spare.

Thanks for the tip on Make XYZ. I had to convert the DXF to an STL, but it seemed to work. I'll report back when I get the part in a week or two.

Update: no one on MakeXYZ picked up the order, so it's not looking like a solution to this issue.

I don't know how you had done it on makexyz, but go to your zip code and contact directly a maker on it with the STL file. This system have now with instant price is flawed and few people are using it.

If that fails, I'll print a B17041 for you and mail it out.

Another update: looks like I messed up the MakeXYZ order; they don't accept DXFs, and the DXF->STL conversion tool I used had produced a zero-height file. I resubmitted with a corrected STL, and the order is on its way. Will update this thread again when the part arrives.
