Carriage mirror position

Postby LeonS » Tue May 31, 2011 12:45 pm

I suspect that I am missing something basic when it comes to mirror alignment.

I have the mirrors aligned so that the beam is hitting the center of the carriage mirror at all positions over the work area. The beam passes through the air assist nozzle just fine in all positions. That is the good news.

To obtain this alignment success I had to shim the lens-mirror assembly up with a couple of washers on each mounting stud, and I had to move the lens assembly to the rear of the mounting hole slots (almost to the end of the adjustment range provided by the design). Is that similar to your experiences?

Everything in my CAD model lines up, but many people have had to shim the carriage mirror up. It is probably a good thing to be off in this direction, because it would be a lot more difficult to have to move the mirrors down.

Your description would be consistent with having the V-rail angled down and to the front as I found on mine: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=559

I leveled mine after I found that and I don't appear to need any shims (still working with a red test laser, though).
