SYSGRO Project

Postby bdring » Fri May 20, 2011 6:04 pm

We have our first sponsored "MakerShip" project.

This is the SYSGRO project. It 3D printer project that uses a digital light projector to create a model out of UV resin. They want to use some MakerSlide on the column that moves the build platform.

This is pretty cool! I had an idea very simmilar to this that I would like to try at some point. I wanted to use a UV laser and a MEMS beam steerer controlled by mach 3. Here's a pic of the beam steerer:

I came accross this while I was searching for cheap gimple solutions. The problem is that it is limited to 5 deg off axis so it needs some decent distance to make parts, but that isn't a problem in this application. Here's a diagram of how it could be set up:

The advantage of this design is it is really cheap, accurate and very fast. I don't know how they are going to use a DLP to project UV to get the photopolymer to react. Don't most platics and glass optics have trouble with UV? I suppose they have to change the bulb or something too.
