This isn't a Makership proposal, just a brainstorm.
There is a lot of overlap between a linear slide and a
saw rail system. With the addition of a few carefully chosen clamps and a piece of plastic cutting board it should be possible to put together a temporary saw or router guide from makerslide. I was thinking of the case where you wanted to build a rigid platform for your laser cutter, but don't have a table saw. You could use the makerslide and carriage parts for a guide to help make the cuts for the platform, then just take the guide apart and move the pieces into your laser.
