List of other sources for makerslide??

Postby cnc74 » Wed Jan 15, 2014 8:21 pm

I am looking for the best price for Makerslide and see that there are now (as of 1/15/2014) more than a few places that are listing it in there inventory but the prices and acual avaliblity are high and out of stock in many cases.

Where did you buy yours?
Source #0: Makerslide (No longer selling direct?)
Source #1: Inventables.com (They order and split it to respective inventories with A.T. due to bulk buy requirements from manufacturer)
Source #2: Automation Technologies (Awesome service and a great company!)

:ugeek:

Makerslide Europe is also out-of-stock, probably until somewhere in February.
So at the moment inventables seems to be the only place :/ ?

It's end of February for us (MakerSlide Europe, aka Amber Spyglass Ltd); the new die is due to arrive at the factory on 24 January, and they'll start pushing metal through it right away, but it still takes 3-4 weeks from that point. There is also a source in the Far East, but I'm not sure whether they sell at retail.

You could check the options at OpenBuilds. They carry OpenRail that can be attached to a standard extrusion and turn it into a Makerslide substitue. They also carry V-slot, that has the linear v groove rail on the inner portion of the extrusion. Check them out here: http://openbuildspartstore.com/v-slot-20-x-40mm/ and here:http://openbuildspartstore.com/openrail-black-anodized/

I have dealt with them in the past and found their service to be excellent.

So would I order 2 x 560mm extrusions + 2 560mm open rail to replace 2 x 560mm makerslide?

It looks like the standard lengths that they sell are 500, 1000 and 1500mm and they don't appear to offer a custom cutting service. So you would end up needing your extrusion (80-20, or misumi) + 2x the extrusion length of OpenRail for each extrusion (OpenRail bolts to the top and bottom of the extrusion). If you altered the design to make use of the V-slot rail, you would only need to order the correct amount of V-slot, and no OpenRail.

You should check with them to ensure that the OpenRail is compatible with the extrusion you are planning to use.
