Andys Wooden Laser

Postby mrandy » Tue Dec 31, 2013 4:38 pm

I got a 2.x laser working over the holiday break. What a challenging and rewarding project!

Cool!

What is the bank of light switches across the back for, and what is the 3 digit display?

Thanks! The five switches control AC power to the various components: laser, motors, exhaust, water pump, air pump. Some of that wiring is internal, and some goes to a set of three AC outlets on the back panel.

The 3-digit display shows the current consumed by the laser, in milliamps. I think it's from LightObject. I'm also adding a second display for water temperature, and then making some thin panels to label everything and cover up the holes

Looks great! My only concern is using potentially flammable wood for the outside panels.
"This is not my sig", it said. - I looked at it suspiciously; Who's sig was it, then?

That can be easily alleviated by adhering some aluminum foil to the interior of the panels. Really though, very tiny chance of issues with it. As long as you're following proper protocol for laser operation (staying with your laser when it's running) it's no problem at all.
