Recommended fire extinguisher?

Postby pixpop » Sun Oct 17, 2010 6:25 pm

Does anyone have recommendations for a fire extinguisher to use in my lab? I was looking at CO2, but they seem very expensive. I wanted to avoid the kind that leaves residue, if possible.

Mine is a dry chemical type. I really, really don't plan on having a fire.

Although now banned in the EU countries but still OK in the US the Halon extinguishers are probably the best for extinguishing the fire without ruining your electronics etc. They are still used in the EU on board aircraft and for military purposes. (Halon is known to cause the highest levels of damage to the atmospheric Ozone layer, or should we start calling it the CO2 layer ? ).

In the past I have used firetrace (http://www.firetrace.co.uk/) they do two types fire trace and pyroflex
The firetrace is the most expensive but, is very effective. I used them on spark erosion machines and yes they work tested in anger on a couple of times where serious fires where prevented.
