Smooth Idlers

Postby trwalters001 » Mon Nov 22, 2010 6:41 pm

Hi All,

I was looking at Alberto's excellent machine in the "Gallery of Machines" (Italy Homebuilt).

He's using smooth idler wheels on all of his axes: ( http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/6816/immagine002et.jpg )

Does anyone have any pro/con to doing this? It would save some money.

The only things I can think of would be deformation of the "teeth" on the belt, and maybe more noise.

In an industrial situation you would see more belt wear and hear more noise. But in this application it wont matter much.
