Kevin's 2.X Build with DSP

Hi everyone! My name is Kevin and I live in Oklahoma City. I don't have much to add to the amazing wealth of knowledge already here but I figured I would post my progress too. So I decided to go with the DSP setup from the beginning and it has been pretty painless so far. There were a few snags I ran into mainly with the lack of info for my particular setup. But between this site and LightObject's forum, I have been able to progress pretty quickly. I am using the LO AWC608 DSP with Keling KL-4042D drivers. I have not documented the build very well but here are the photos I have so far.

WOW how did you get the metal parts and the z axis parts I have been waiting for months but bdring does not sell them anymore and no one sell them on the site

Barton had a run of several kits back in April or so. I bought the skins from ImprobableConstruct recently and he has two sets available now.

You can always download the drawings and find a local or internet based shop that can make the parts for you.

Kevin,

Your build looks awesome! I also received the skins recently from improbable and I can't wait to finish everything.

The only thing that has been holding me up is the electronics layout. I have been thinking of a way to do it very neat and your method looks AWESOME.

Any chance would you mind sharing your method of creating the carbon fiber plates? Also are the wires run in between the carbon and MDF or under the MDF?

After seeing yours, I would love to make mine nearly as clean and neat.

Any advice would be really appriciated.

My base is 3/4 MDF and I am running the wires through the base and under. There is a nice space under there as long as you keep the wires secured to the underside. I ran my 24v power and ground through to the back side into two distribution blocks. I am also adding a panel with quick disconnects for the stepper motor drive cables.

Kevin,

That's a good looking build! You've been progressing quite a bit faster than we have - we're just now getting to the electronics bay. I didn't see where you mounted the laser power supply - will it fit in the electronics bay or are you going to put it somewhere else?

Thanks Alan! I am mounting the laser psu on a steel plate above the electronics bay. I have seen others do this as well and it made the layout of everything so much easier.

Interesting. I must have missed the other posts talking about mounting the laser psu above the electronics bay. Will the steel plate be supported only on three sides (makerslide to the left, then front and back)? I have seen some discussions about keeping the laser psu as far away as possible from some of the other electronics (stepper drivers, limit switch wiring). Your design sounds like it will make it easy to keep the signal cross-talk down to a minimum.

I am using 4 L brackets to suspend the plate. Two on each side(L+R) using the slot retainer nuts and then I will drill holes in the plate to secure it to the brackets. All the high voltage will be up high so it should minimize any potential interference. My 24v psu and stepper drivers are pretty big and take up a lot of real estate and I don't know if I could have found a spot for it down below.
