If you buy the ShapeOko from the UK, you'll also pay VAT at 20% on the whole thing, including shipping. The eShapeOko price includes VAT. The eShapeOko is still more expensive than the ShapeOko if you don't take shipping into account. The main attraction for the eShapeOko, as I see it, is that you can get the dual-Y and dual-X upgrades as kit options, longer Y rails by default, and a few other useful upgrades (belts-on-the-outside on Y, belt-on-top on X, longer Z wheelbase, mounting holes for X and Y limit switches, nice belt anchors, tensioners and clamps) as standard. I don't shy away from asking for more money for that -- so I won't win your prize.

This is a meaningless question because any product can be made cheaper if you are okay with it being shittier.

I wouldn't even classify a shapeoko as a tool, just a toy or trinket. I could build a comparable cnc router out of cardboard.

you are saying e and shapeoko are bad?... please quantify.. seem to offer a lot for the money. Its the additions (to make in to a working cnc) that run away with cost.. that was the context of my initial posting.. tell us more please...

ShapeOko was it's own web site and forum. It seams silly to debate the quality here. Ask the people that use them over at ShapeOko.com.
