Cryptex puzzle

Postby J45on » Sun Nov 06, 2011 8:50 pm

I have made a Cryptex puzzle , Think bicycle combination lock but with letters :D
It was going to have six wheels but I got bored glueing all the bits together so when I got to five I stopped

It is all made from loads of laser cut 3mm plywood bits ( apart from the drawer knobs)
When open the outer wheels can be removed to change the code word
The part on the right with the teeth is hollow to allow something secret to be placed inside

The outer wheels have flats on them and I glued a strip of laser printed letters to the outside and coated with watered down PVA glue as protection

If I get round to tidying up the corel draw file I may post it
It is a bit of a mess I just kept cutting what I needed until I was done

That is amazing. It would be a big hit on Thingaverse. You should post it there and let Hackaday, Make, etc know about it.

Thanks :D I will try to do that , the inspiration came from Thingaverse in the first place after seeing a 3D printed cryptex http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4414

Do you have any video or instructions on how you made it? I want to attempt one scaled up about 2 times and with 8 rings. I was thinking I would try it on one of my CNC routers.

Unfortunately I don't, I just sort of made it up as I went along drawing what I needed in corel draw.
I will however attempt to tidy up the file I have and make a list/instructions of what and how many pieces to cut for each wheel ect
I tried to nest as many pieces as I could inside each other to minimise wastage
This will probable take me a good few days to do
