Hi All, I have started a laser machine build just to see if I am capable to do it -

split the the build into four parts

1. Mechanical build : consisting of the structure - frameworks and enclosure and i am nearing the end of it

2. control electronics: consisting of the DSP, a hobby CNC unipolar board (bcos it was lying with me) 3 sanyo denki motors -

3. control hardware : 3m htd 12mm wide belt for the controls and 7.5mm wide for z axis up and down - M12 screw rods to actuate the Z axis thk linear slide, and hiwin on the ganrtry

4. optics : 60 watt laser tube and powersupply with glass mirrors (moly) and 20 mm focussing lens

I will keep updating this thread with questions and pictures and explaination on what I am doing

Hello Folks, Finally my machine build is coming up fast,

some slow downs - The lightobject board which I received was minus a lot of chips per the pics attached - if you plan to buy boards from lightobject - please confirm first that they want to supply full boards and not half baked one!

I was able to get some of the IC's - the 2630 opto isolators, the 26LS31 - but not the TLP281-4 - (can any one with paypal get it for me-kindly )

I was able to get the structure up - and the 3m htd belt is so very expensive - I am currently mounting everything in place -and will post more pics soon.

any suggestions looking at the pics is always welcome

Regards

Irfan

update - got the TLP over ebay - expensive 13usd for 3

What Irfan did not mention is that the board he bought is a not the current version. His version was missing a few chips for several functions that are not used by all users, and the z control. Marco has been really great at finding out exactly what chips were necessary to update his board, and I personally wrote an instalation document for for one of the upgrades. I also have answered some of Irfans questions on the LightObject forum.

If anyone has concerns about service from LightObject, relax. Marco is just like Bart - he goes out of his way to keep his customers happy.

FYI - I have no financial interest in light object, but I will go out of my way to make sure snide comments are not left out there to inappropriately influence people against good, honest people.

Thank you tim for jumping in -

I think what marco offers is a wonderful board, I have no qualms against anything that Macro sells, but I also feel I have not paid less money to him to get a deficient board(my version is 1.6), I call it a deficient board because what is mentioned in the manual and what is shown in the image presented in the manual is that of a board that talks about complete functionality and all the IC's on it,

Tell me is it wrong to make peers aware of the problems they may face and just that they need to confirm if they will get a board which is fully populated. Tell me can you guarantee that if he sells a new board and that board will not be void of any chips, software problems I can understand - but leaving out hardware is cost cutting as Marco has himself stated on his forum that he was not aware of the issue.

and as to Marco solving the issues - he has just mentioned about adding the Z axis quad opto isolator chip for the limits, what about the rest of the chips - he never answered questions on those ones, I wanted to confirm from him if the firmware supports the Z axis and u axis step dir outputs - which I think I should confirm by adding chips and finding out myself,
http://www.lightobject.info/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=615

here is the additional costs - hcpl 2630 - USD 3 each X2, 26LS31 USD1, TLP - 4, 13 usd for 3 on ebay, - thats 20USD - I am not bothered about the money - but more of the time and effort involved.

I only feel that if people ask him questions on the missing chips he will only improve his Quality control on supplying fully populated boards - and as a prospective customer it would be better to confirm than regret

I hope I have only been fair -

I also apologize if my language has been rude anywhere - its difficult with a knee surgery and trying to hunt for the IC's in the local market.

Marco - if you are reading this - rest assure that as a person I have nothing against you - but also is a fact that a few boards with missing chips were supplied and mine was with the most missing! and you having accepted it only upholds your dedication to what you do- please do keep up the good work.

Bart - i only post here so that it might help and also to get help - if you feel otherwise kindly disqualify me for this forum-

Regards

Some more images,

After the loss of the tubes - have decided to source them locally - hope that works out well - currently on with the mechanicals and getting to the limit switches
The reduction gear box turned out well,

Some pics of the assembly - decided that I would order the laser tube at the last - and this time would get 4 tubes at once and then vouch for having atleast one in good condition.
