Hah, cool, i need to try that out.
My kinect's been sitting in the drawer for a while now. Back when i bought it, the software was pretty limited. Multi-volume scanning was painful and the size of a single volume was pretty constricting.
I'm having buyers remorse now for not going the semi-DIY structured light way instead of a turn-key laser-based solution.
Then again, the opportunity was too good to pass up (got the NextEngine locally, barely used and with the two-axis turntable and ton of goodies for less than what just the scanner costs before the taxes and customs fees).
In case anyone was curious, this is what the mesh looks like:
The original toy's head is 19mm wide, sans horns and ears.
