Laser-Sintering with an 40W CO2 Laser

Postby Hassi » Wed Jul 20, 2011 9:37 am

Hi Folks,
has anyone tried to print something in 3D with Laser-Sintering?
i saw a Youtubevideo of the "EOS" Company, in wich one they did lasersinter dental objekts with an 200W co2 Laser and this quite fast.
The alloy of the Sinterpowder was Chrome and Cobald.
I think a 40W Laser could do the same with less of speed?!

This time i do my homework to build my first cnc-machine (the 2.x-laser), but when this project is done, im looking forward to build an Lasersintering-Machine.

here is the Link i said above: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTutyVxb ... re=related

greets, Hassi

Should be very easy, although extremely slow. Generally a SLS system will use galvos or something something so you can scan super fast.

I'm pretty sure the stock buildlog build can do this manually without modification, just stick a plate of sugar on the table and engrave at low power without air assist to fuse a layer. Sprinkle another layer of sugar and repeat just like candyfab:

Just came across this over at POPSCI:

A sun powered glass 3D printer. i.e. it uses the sun to melt sand into glass.
