2.x Laser Kits (Edit: In Production..again)

Questions, Suggestions, Tips, Etc

I could use this type of connector. They are pretty universal across the planet and are pretty cheap at less than $2.

Those work for me - certainly when I was in the UK they were trivial to get hold of...

I don't mind if you use the power connector you showed (I'm in US) to make it easier on the international guys. No power sockets would also be OK.

I prefer the usb over the D with trim controls but would be happy with a more universal plate if that's the consensus from the kit buyers.

One additional thing Bart, do to you have the rotatry attachment kit still in stock? It lists as in stock on the buildlog kits page but I can't find it on the makerslide store.

I prefer the unit wth the switch and some come with a fuse as well.

Like these(similar to the ones you show), the green one is 5.00 or so and the red one I have seen as low as 2.00 or so:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/IEC320-C14-3-Pi ... 4ab90ebfcb

Is it really worth skimping on a 2800.00 project to save 2.00 or 3.00 and not get a nicer switch with fuse? Not for me.

On my cnc I have an emi filter version similar to this, do you think for the laser this would be beneficial?:

with fuse:

The question was about the power out not power in. Power in will remain the same (switch and optional fuse) as shown in the picture on this post.

I definitely prefer the IEC panel sockets for the outputs. For the remaining panel cutouts, I'd prefer USB and DB25, I won't have a use for the trimpot holes (and besides, I can easily drill holes later, but cutting more complex shapes without a CNC router can be a pain).

The first panel is just to get your laser running. You cut your second panel the way you want it using your laser. 8)

IEC Panel sockets are a good alternative for the outputs, another option (that i would have chosen if i were to build a laser) is Neutrik Powercon True1: http://www.neutrik.com/en/audio/powerco ... con-true1/

Not as cheap, but locking, have panel-mount panel with both in and outputs in the same panel and look really nice :)

(the panel-mount double-socket costs about 7€, so it is not horribly expensive)

I am sticking with the original plan because it is way cheaper and more universal, but those connectors are nice.

I also use these connectors sometimes. They are designed as power connectors but also work well as stepper motor connectors because they have 4 pins. They are fully sealed for outdoor use too.

They are from Amphenol-Tuchel and are a pretty good price. The bulkhead mount is about $7 from Digikey

Some connectors appear cheaper like the CPC series of circular connectors, but you have to buy the pin separately. These come with pins and the are screw mounted (reusable).

Looks like Inventables must have some stock of MakerSlide.

I ordered 3x1200mm last week to get 'in the queue' and was surprised to get an email yesterday that it had shipped!

The MakerSlide page still shows 45/45 lead time.
