2.x Laser Kits (Edit: In Production..again)

Postby bdring » Sun May 27, 2012 1:47 pm

I have been getting a lot of requests lately for 2.x Laser Kits. I don't have time to include all commonly available hardware items. I am thinking about trimming it down to one kit of the custom fabricated items. I may sell some of the other items individually of the store.

Here is the my proposal for the custom kit contents.

B14001-001 Z Table Lift Plate 4
B17005-001 Bearing Bracket, Z Lift 7
B17007 Limit Switch Bracket 1
B17008 2.x Y Axis Motor Bracket 1
B17011 Cover Stop 1
B17013 2.x Rear Mirror Plate 1
B17015 Cover Interlock Switch Plate 1
B17017 Z Motor Bracket 1
B17033 Electronic Module Gusset 2
B17035 Adjustable Idler Bracket 1
B17040 Limit Switch Bracket (Z+) 1
B17041 Idler Wheel Bracket 1
B17042 Pulley Bracket 2
B17043 Idler Wheel Bracket 2
B17044 Limit Switch Bracket (Z-) 1
B30044 Tube Bracket Assembly 2
C14002-001 Lens Carriage Plate 1
C14004 Electronic Module Back Plate 1
C30001-013 Gantry End Left 1
C30001-014 Gantry End Right 1
D19013 Electronic Module Base 1

Bart, I can understand your motivation. So that I can start budgeting properly, what sort of price range were you thinking of for this new kit?

I have still not settled on the final list of parts, put it would probably be in the $225 range as it is now. I will probably run it the same way I ran the ORD Bots.

There would be a small pre-order charge for a limited number of kits to get you in the queue. Production would begin right away and not wait for pre-orders to sell out.

Thanks Bart! So, am I right that it looks like I would need Makerslide that I already have or can get from Inventables, a laser available from various sources, electronics power supply and steppers also widely available, and the skin, to complete the project? Would there be any other major components I should budget for?

Most of the other parts are listed on this wiki page. If something major is missing from that page, please edit the wiki to add it.

Hello Bart,

Is my first post on this forum , but i am reading it for a long time.I see that you are selling a new kit for the 2.x laser, but i don't see any makerslide mechanotronics parts in it.Do we have to wait till Inventables begins selling them at 24$ (1200mm) a piece or you will include them in the kit?Are you shipping internationally the kits or we can just find an European aluminium factory to produce the aluminium profile (makerslide), off course with your approvals?I really want to build a 2.x laser cuter and i already find a friend in states where to ship the kits, i need just the mechanotronics kit, plastic parts kit and linear bearing sistem kit.

Best regards,
Rokerij

The plan is to sell only the custom parts. If MakerSlide is available from Inventables at the time, you should get it from them. The more parts I include in the kits, the less quantity I will sell. I have a fixed about of time I can dedicate to the project.

Here is my wish list for a 2.x laser kit:

[*]No electronics module base, it could easily be fabricated by hand (it doesn't need to be perfect), and will add weight.
[*]Likewise the front & back panels (a good first project for when the laser is running!).
[*]Perhaps make the plastic parts kit should optional (for those of us who wish to try 3D printing or routing them).
[*]If you could include pre-cut makerslide, idlers, bearings, spacers and wheels (or convince Inventables to create a simple kit), I would be forever grateful!

Has anyone successful built a 2.x laser using printed rather than routed plastic parts (I see that the STL files are on thingiverse)?

This sounds excellent. I bought a bunch of Makerslide and parts from Inventables to build this laser, I just need the custom parts.

I hope whatever package you create contains at least the routed delrin parts. Unlike dwjp I wouldn't mind the electronics module base, and think it's fine that you not include makerslide or wheels (assuming inventables ships me the stuff!).

I don't see skins anywhere - will these be available for purchase again?
