Wiring help

Postby zachjowi » Sat Jan 17, 2015 8:36 pm

I hope that there is someone on here that can still help get my laser done before all the laser building crowd leaves. I Have all my limit switches mounted in the frame and the motors. I am hoping to get the rest of the electronics in and then the tube. I am very confused about how to wire and get everything set up. I have 3 motors x, y, z and also have an AWC608 controller and 3 M542ES micro step drivers. I also have my 24volt PSU and ;aser PSU. Is there a wiring schematic anywhere for this configuration? I have only seen the old scematics :(

Thanks

First place to start is with the documentation that came with each of your parts. Each should have a method for identifying the terminals. Motor terminals should be obvious. Power, follow the voltage inputs that are required.

While not necessarily for this laser, this schematic should give you enough guidance to figure it out.

Yep. They basically all have similar parts. Just need to verify pinouts.

That's one of those, it depends questions. It's all a function of the current expected and the intended use.

In general:

-For endstops I used a twisted pair (salvaged from ethernet cables)
-For internal electronics wiring (low voltage, low current) I used AWG-22. Wiring runs through sleeves.
-For wiring to steppers, I used AWG-22 shielded cables
-For higher current I used AWG-18

I'd recommend sitting down with some of the online wire sizing charts and determine your needs though.
