Air/water grommets on the back skin

Postby BenJackson » Tue Jun 21, 2011 12:40 am

The cutouts in my back skin for the air/water grommets seem too small. The round openings are almost exactly the size of the inside diameter of the grommets. My skins are known to have some cutout issues so I'm not sure if this is an area where I'm doing something wrong or if I just need to trim the skins

My holes were also too small. I cut the grommets in half so that I still had some protection.

I will look into this. At one time the grommets fit fine.

Add one to the "too small" camp. I put the silicone fusing tape around the aluminum edges and ran the tubes that way.

On a related note, the mounting holes for the 4" hose flange on the back were nowhere near M5, which seemed to be the indicated hardware. I used #8 and those would actually thread into the Alupanel.

Yeah, I drilled mine to M5 and used the supplied hex nuts to attach the flange.

The grommet hole is too small. Mine fit, so either I used a different grommet or hole. I adjusted the skin drawing for this and increased the duct mounting holes size. All new cut skins will comply.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

I would guess you used smaller grommets. The ones from the kit are very loose and the tubes themselves easily pass the holes in the skins.

On a slightly related note, what is the proper way to hook up to the 4" vent outlet? Regular 4" flex duct won't go over it (rather butts up to it) and it's much too heavy to expect to secure a crimped (reduced) duct to be secured inside it with zipscrews. I've just got the flex duct taped on at the moment.
