Cracked Y Idler Mount

Postby twehr » Sat Jul 09, 2011 4:14 pm

Doing a few hours of production today and at one point I started getting what looked like a double-strike on some lettering. It only appears at the end (image x-max).

Notice the double comma at the end.

Here is what it looks like if I do unilateral x swing (only marking with head movement L to R). Of course that will double the time to process a file.

Here is the cause. A cracked X Axis Idler Mount.

I probably have more hours on my machine that anybody else. Bart is aware and looking at this. You may want to periodically check yours.

Tim actually got the very first 2.x. The amount of material at the top of that bracket was thinner than it should have been and the design changed shortly after that. Most people got the rounded top version. The design is changing to the smooth idler which will not have pressure from the bearing.

I am sending several of the rounded top style and the smooth idler version to Tim overnight.

Tim, mine is cracked also. This might be why I had to slow down my max acceleration for the DSP when engraving letters that
drop below the line like a g and y. They were coming out deformed until I slowed the max acceleration
from 10000 to 4000.

Bart overnighted a new mount. Took about 4 minutes to install. All is back to normal.

Thanks, Bart, for always being the best vendor in any business.

Looks like that part could use some more material above the Bearing.

That was the first generation bracket. The second generation had more material and had a rounded top to make it easier to distinguish from similar brackets. The third generation was completely redesigned to reduce runout. Those are shipping with all new kits starting this week (no additional charge). The low runout idler is implemented in the X, Y and Z axes.
