Joining Piecs of Makerslide?

I'm sorry if this has come up somewhere else, I really did look.

With what likelihood of success can makerslide rails be joined end to end?

Otherwise my design is going to require 2 lengths of slide with 2.5' of the second leg sitting on a shelf for who knows how long.

Or... do we know if 6 or 8 foot lengths ever be available?

Or... is it likely that some kind soul might have an 18" length of the stuff they might sell? (okay I can go dig for this one myself)
