Software Toolchain (Open Scad) Question

Postby WhiteB0rd » Tue Mar 20, 2012 4:26 am

Apologies in advance if this is the wrong place to ask.... I'm new at this.

I've been trying to learn Open Scad and set myself as a first task designing an adaptor plate to mount a Budaschnozzle to the ORDbot extruder carriage. I started with a concept from Gijs from another thread here, and ended up with this:

BudaDaptor_v0.2.png
BudaDaptor v0.2
BudaDaptor_v0.2.png (7.6 KiB) Viewed 9460 times

Now, I see that I can export to .stl from Open Scad, so if I wanted to print it (assuming the presence of a working printer), I would just proceed. But I would like to produce a dimensioned drawing, and perhaps get an estimate for getting the plate cut from aluminum. What file formats are used for that kind of work (water jet or laser cutting, CNC milling)?

Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to proceed?

Thanks in advance......

Export to DXF. Most CAD packages will open that.

You can export to .stl from OpenSCAD:
Design > Export as STL ...

You could do the same with FreeCAD, by extruding a basic sketch. You can set dimensions etc in the sketch.
