Used real power for a 40 watt tube?

Postby educa » Tue Jan 24, 2012 12:14 am

Hi,

This might be a strange question, but if you shoot a 40 watt co2 laser tube at full power, then the tube outputs around 40 watts of energy into the beam.

But.... how many watts does it then actually use from the wall socket? I think I read somewhere that co2 laser has around 20% efficiency.

Does that mean that 40 watts is generated and 160 watts is produced as heat which has to be taken away by the cooling system?

So in total it would use 200 watts from the power supply ?

Any idea if this can be cooled by a pc watercooling system ? Anyone using this ? How many fans?

Kind regards,

Bart

CO2 lasers are about 10% efficient, so at least 400w in.

I see, so does that mean that my water cooling will have to take care of 400 - 40 = 360 watt of heat?
