[Q] Grounding PSU

Postby nephertiti » Mon Jan 14, 2013 1:05 pm

Hi,

I know there is lot of posts about grounding PSU but I am a newbie :) and I am not sure doing it right or wrong. I already fried 2x 12V fan and my DSP LCD blinking when I start engrade or cut.

ground(symbol) FG AC AC

So what is meaning of ground? Do I need connect FG cable(yellow/green cable) to ground? or connect ground to frame (drill aluminum and screw it)?

If there is picture about wire connections it will be better for me :).

Thank you.

FG should be connected to the grounding pin on you AC cord that plugs in the wall. What country (voltage) are you in?

The frame does not need to be grounded, but it is a good idea. If a wire breaks loose and touches the frame, you do not want a safety issue. With that said, the clear anodized frame is not easy to make electrical connection to. Anodize is a good insulator.

Hi Bart

Thank you for answer again :)

Turkey. We are using 220V and 3 wire cable.

Yes I did like you said but what about "ground symbol" screw near FG pin?

I use a common ground point on the terminal blocks. tie all power supplies to this point.

i would suggest to stay true to the wireing colors
=> always use green/yellow for ground and use it for nothing else
and of course dont mix the other colors for different uses

I have to look at my machine, but I think I use that ground stud as the return wire for my tube.
