Alternative fume extraction points

Postby J45on » Mon Apr 25, 2011 3:29 pm

Does anybody foresee problems with alternative fume extraction points ?
IE: front extraction, side extraction or bottom extraction ?
Does it need to go out of the rear of the machine ? I have very limited space in my shop.

As a bonus front extraction would pull the smoke away from the laser and mirrors.

You can do whatever you want as long as you can get rid of the smoke reasonably efficiently. I'd say the only important rule of thumb is half the air come in one side and out the other so you don't get giant dead spots.

If you have a choice, I'd be partial to cutting slits in the top and sucking air out the bottom so you have a poor mans vacuum table kind of effect where air is pulling the material down.
